Orthodontic treatment

Orthodontic treatmentOrthodontic treatment usually involves the use of braces to straighten out teeth. This is done to improve the appearance of the teeth and face, to improve the health of the teeth and gums and to help the way teeth function and bite.

Some braces work may start at an early age but most of the time treatment will start when most of the adult teeth have come through, around 11 to 12 years of age. But you're never too old to have orthodontic treatment - options may be more limited as you get older and you are no longer growing but feel free to ask your dentist about your individual treament options.

If your teeth are quite badly out of line you may be eligible to have treatment funded by the national health service (NHS), however because of the high demand for this treatment there is usually a waiting list but ask one of our dentists about this service, they can supply you with the information you need.

Alternatively, if you are not eligible for NHS treatment or do not want to wait, we can offer you treatment on a private basis. We can also offer private patients tooth coloured fixed braces or clear tooth positioners (Invisalign) if appropriate.

If you are interested in having brace work please talk to your routine dentist first, they will be able to advise you as to whether your teeth and gums are healthy enough to consider brace treatment. Your routine dentist will refer you for treatment but will continue to be responsible for routine checkups and general dental treatment during the brace treatment period.
